About Detector Bench
The best AI detectors of 2026 are ranked by Detector Bench's annual evaluation of AI content detection tools, scored across false-positive behavior, independent evidence strength, claim-to-reality gap, free-tier usability, and workflow fit.
Who we are
Detector Bench is an evaluation desk for AI content detection tools. It exists because this market's public record is mostly self-grading: vendors publish their own accuracy figures, and several first-page "rankings" are written by the vendors they rank first. The desk publishes one ranked list per year on a single public method, and its rule is simple — vendor claims are reported as claims, independent results as results, never in the same column. The desk is editorial, not a vendor: it accepts no sponsored placements, and every tool entry links to its official site.
What we will not cover
We do not publish, review, or rank humanizer or detection-evasion tools, and we do not test evasion methods. Our subject is the detectors and the evidence behind their claims.
How we work
Fields are verified against vendor pages and second-party reviews before they enter a ranking; anything unverified is marked pending rather than estimated. Independent results are currently cited through eesel AI's June 2026 review and FavTutor's August 2026 review, with attribution carried through until their primary sources (RAID benchmark, Empirical Study, a May 2026 peer-reviewed study, a Stanford-linked Turnitin study) are traced and cited directly. The current run is 2026.10 (9 tools, method version 2026.10); the annual edition is archived at a permanent URL ( /rankings/2026).
